Routes, scenarios and other assets (rolling stock, etc.) in Train Simulator are made up of many individual elements, and so sharing material that you have created would be very laborious. The Packager provides the ability to consolidate large numbers of individual assets into 'Packages' – a single file containing lots of assets.
Packages created with Train Simulator have a *.rwp extension.
| Important note: When creating a package you must respect the ownership of material created by other individuals or companies. Train Simulator enforces this by preventing you from packing assets that were supplied to you with the protection flag set. |
Creating a Package
Start the Train Simulator Utilities by double-clicking the file Utilities.exe which is located in the Train Simulator installation folder (by default this is C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonRailWorks), then click the Packager tab and then Refresh.
The left-hand side of the screen shows your current assets listed in a directory structure. Clicking on a plus symbol ( + ) will expand the tree structure so that individual files of a route or asset can be viewed.
The right-hand side shows the contents of the package you are creating. By default it is empty. You can build up a list of the required items that will be built into the package by checking the boxes next to the assets you wish to include in the package and clicking the right chevron (>) to include them.
If you include assets that you then decide you do not need, simply check the box next to them in the right-hand window and then click the left chevron (<) which removes them from the list.
When you have assembled all your assets, enter a name in the 'author' field and decide whether you wish this package to be protected or unprotected. Unprotected packages can be shared freely and the contents of these packages can be used by other route creators. If the package is flagged as protected then other content creators cannot use the assets within their own new packages.
To finish the process, click 'Create package' where a dialogue will be displayed listing all assets within this package. Check the list and press OK if the list is correct.
A name and location for the package to be saved can now be selected. A progress bar will be displayed while the package is being created.
Package Manager
Routes in Train Simulator are made up of many individual elements. To simplify sharing of routes and other assets, Train Simulator allows the compilation of individual assets into 'Packages' – a single file containing lots of assets.
The Package Manager is used to import assets into your version of Train Simulator, and, if you wish, to delete material previously imported.
You can install Package files from other Train Simulator users or commercial providers (these have the extension *.rwp).
You can also use the Package Manager to uninstall any package previously installed.
Warning: You should only install packages from trustworthy sources. Dovetail Games cannot offer support to users who have installed packages that may have directly modified content as this introduces an unknown element that is inherently difficult to diagnose as a consequence.

To use the Package Manager, click on the tab titled Package Manager in the Train Simulator Utilities.
A list of currently installed packages will be displayed in the left panel. You can click on any installed package to view the files contained within that package in the right-hand panel. The contents can be displayed in tree or list view.
Installing a Package

Then, to start the Package Manager, load the Train Simulator Utilities by double-clicking the file Utilities.exe which is located in the Train Simulator installation folder (by default this is C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonRailWorks), then click the Package Manager tab.
This shows you the packages you currently have installed.
Then click the Install button and use the file manager to find the package you wish to load. Simply press enter and the package will start to load. If the Package Manager detects any problems, it will display an appropriate error message.
Once the package is successfully loaded, it will appear in the list of installed packages.
Uninstalling a Package
To uninstall a Package, load the Train Simulator Utilities by double-clicking the file Utilities.exe which is located in the Train Simulator installation folder (by default this is C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonRailWorks), then click the Package Manager tab.
This shows you the packages you currently have installed. Select the package you wish to remove then press the Uninstall button and the package will be removed after you have confirmed that this is your intention.
If the Package Manager detects any problems, it will display an appropriate error message.
Once the package is successfully removed, it will disappear from the list of installed packages.
